If you have been with me for a while you know how much I love crowdsourcing ideas. Last week, when the weather turned cooler I was reminded that the two pairs of long pajamas I owned were dead—ground to oblivion thanks to aggressive pandemic usage.
I put out a call on Instagram Stories to ask about favorite pajama brands:
For the record, I am pro-nipple functionally, but I do feel self-conscious if I’m wearing pajamas whose fabric is so thin that its impossible for people not to notice your nipples staring back at them.
And as was the case with my underwear crowdsourcing post, people SHOWED UP in response. I also received many messages asking me to share the results, including a request for a classic Koh pie chart LOL. So here we go:
PJ brands recommended by Christine’s Instagram community
Apologies in advance for any typos. I transcribed these brand names from my Instagram DMs but did not look up every brand to confirm spelling.
Below is an alphabetized list of all of the recommended brands. People usually responded simply with a brand name but if they added commentary, I include it in quotes below because I find the color commentary helpful. I also include numbers to indicate when brands were recommended multiple times because I believe in frequency data (more on that in a moment). Here are the 29 recommendations:
32 Degrees (“dress as PJs because hello midlife, tank & drawstring lounge pants”)
Auden from Target (“I got summer ones and I plan on looking for winter ones”)
Barefoot Dreams (“Luxe Milk Jersey Piped Pajama Set”)
Beyond Yoga (“They are stupid expensive but after years of struggling to find the perfect pajamas, my perfect PJs are Beyond Yoga lounge around featherweight jogger and the Beyond Yoga sleep tee. It’s called the hit snooze tee. I think it’s meant to be worn without pants but I simultaneously need to not have my skin touching skin—as would happen with shorts or just the tee—and also need to feel like I am not wearing any clothes, so this is the combo for me.”)
Cozy House collection bamboo loungewear (“A little thin up top but great for wicking at night”)
Eberjey x 3
Eddie Bauer (“sweatpants and soft LS tee for winter”)
Hanna Andersson (for grownups)
Hanro (“a splurge”)
Helena Rose
HUE (“Temperature regulating pajama bottoms. I just got bottoms because I only wear tank tops due to heating up like a furnace while sleeping.”)
J Crew x 2 (“lots of stripes!”)
Joyspun from Walmart x 4
Knix x 2
Lands End
LAKE x 5 (“the Pima cotton is soooo soft!” “expensive but worth it”)
L.L. Bean (“Super soft shrink free button front pajama set. Cotton jersey, comfy waistband, pockets”)
Lunya Silk
Nautica (“Some great ones I used to get at Costco, for winter”)
Nordstrom (“soft shorts set—the kind with a collar and piping”)
Petite Plume
Printfresh x 3 (“Such fun patterns”)
Roller Rabbit x 2
Room Service
Soma x 11; 5 people referred to the cool nights line (“great for summer” “got rid of everything else!” “They have pants, shorts, gowns and robes”)
Stars Above from Target x 3 (“I love this brand. Just doesn’t quite hit that last point LOL” “they’re soooo soft”)
Sundara Textiles
Tommy John
T-shirt/tank + undies (“Super boring here!”)
The 6 top recommended PJ brands
Given the length of the above list, I narrowed down to brands recommended 3+ times so I could collect links and price comparison information. (Some of these links are affiliate links, which means if you shop them you will do me a little referral solid at no extra cost to you!)
(3 recommendations) Eberjey | range of prices depending on style; long two-piece sets are around $158
(3 recommendations) Printfresh | range of prices depending on style; long two-piece sets are around $158
(3 recommendations) Stars Above from Target | at the time of publishing there aren’t long two-piece sets—check back as it gets colder!
(4 recommendations) Joyspun from Walmart | range of prices depending on style; long two-piece sets are around $20
(5 recommendations) LAKE | range of prices depending on style; long two-piece sets are around $124
(11 recommendations) Soma (and here’s a direct link to the highly recommended Cool Nights line) | range of prices depending on style and tops and bottoms are sold separately, but long top/bottom combos total to around $108
And here’s a pie chart to show percentage splits on recommendations:
CONCLUSION: My first inclination was to try Soma based on the number of recommendations—they were the top brand recommended for underwear too—but I am going to start with Printfresh because the PJs are organic cotton and the prints are incredible. Aside from the prints being gorgeous, an added bonus of Printfresh is that even if the material is thin, the prints would hide any nipple action, which I appreciate! LOL.
MORE. PIE. CHARTS.
Our mutual friend Sarah loves her Soma PJs! I have two pair of Land’s End PJs I love, but last year I could not find them anywhere.
