Oh Christine, I have been doing the exact same thing at my doctor’s visits. I am more than a number on the scale! The numbers that I care more about are in my blood work. Perimenopause has not been kind to my waistline, so instead of worrying about numbers, I am focusing on mobility and strength so that I continue to enjoy being active as I age. What works for me: a consistent yoga practice, daily walks, strength training (not so easy for me but I’m trying) and my new favorite activity, jump roping 5 minutes a day. I’m focusing on foods that fuel my body while also not beating myself up when I have foods that would be considered “bad” in some circles. Thanks for sharing your story; it was so relatable.
That sounds like the perfect practice! And I am with you on the physical side, except for the jump roping. I don't think Koreans are designed to leave the ground like that LOL.
Another amazing story, Sis! I've always been classified as Obese, but like you, I don't let this rule my day. Feeling good is more important. I'm sorry that someone ever made you feel like this, but I guess that without him, you wouldn't truly appreciate all the gifts that you have in your life. Love you!
So sorry to hear about the earlier "trial relationship". Some of us take a while to get it right. #memberofthatclub
The only time I took delight in stepping on the scale was en route to being put under for my colonoscopy. The last "best" weight I ever had. Am now oblivious to the number and enjoying building muscles! I'm glad you shared this and undoubtedly many will take comfort knowing they are not alone and maybe they'll listen to that little voice that's whispering "this is not okay".
Oh, and Asian Moms...curious how they can go from practiced obtuse and indirect communication to "are you going to get to the gym sometime soon? " or "You're wonderful, you can do better than my daughter..."
Thank you so much, and I appreciate your generous words.
Also, strength and flexibility are where it's at! Glad to hear you are prioritizing that. As for Asian moms, just this morning I found myself lovingly disrupting this kind of communication with my Mom. And also, you might enjoy my post this morning re: process over product, which is counterintuitive to achievement culture.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I love how you’ve handled it. You’re an inspiration. I’ve heard elsewhere that BMI is very flawed. To say that you’re overweight, clearly, you’re not.
You're so welcome, Vicky. And not sure if you saw the P.S. under the photo but there are a couple of other sources that I found interesting to read/listen to related to all of this.

Thank you, George -- appreciate you so much!
