I heard a really great quote this past week, which is that "Worry and preparation are two different things. Worry pretends to be necessary, but it isn't the same as preparation at all." I can get verrry caught up in the What ifs and the Oh nos!
I love how you stated this, Christine. My two teens have been involved in different activities over the years. Sometimes I pause and reflect on how much richer my life is because of the ways they’ve challenged themselves and brought our whole family into new worlds and experiences, such as violin and long-distance running. My piano-playing son is now asking to study the marimba. Who knows where this will lead us next? 😊
Love this. When Hailey went from all musical theater high school all the time to focusing just on STEM in college I felt like they'd lost a little part of themselves, but turns out they just found the next version of who they are meant to be. It's so hard to let go, but so important.
Yes, I find that one of the simplest, best things I can do when I find myself getting tangled in feelings like this is saying, "Hello, it's about them, not you." :-)

"worry pretends to be necessary" -- WOOF, that is GREAT.
Seriously, I wish I could have heard that 35 years ago. Getting it now ain’t bad though

Thank you so much... and yes, I think it is so important to embrace the unknown from the perspective of delight and curiosity!

Oh Jenny, of course you have put it here so beautifully. I love that -- for you and for Hailey.
Vi is one fortunate kid.
what a great point and reminder! we get so invested in our kids' journeys we have to be able to let them navigate in spite of our feelings

Love that perspective ❤️
